Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). By damaging your immune system, HIV interferes with your body’s ability to fight infection and disease.

HIV is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. The virus attacks and destroys a type of white blood cell called a CD4 cell. CD4 cells are important for fighting infection. As the virus destroys more and more CD4 cells, the body’s immune system becomes weaker and weaker.

When the body’s immune system is too weak to fight off infection, a person with HIV has developed AIDS. AIDS is the most advanced stage of HIV infection.

There is currently no cure for HIV/AIDS. However, there are effective treatments that can help people with HIV live long, healthy lives. These treatments can help to keep the virus under control and prevent it from progressing to AIDS.

There are a number of things that beauty professionals and estheticians can do to help treat and take care of clients with HIV/AIDS, including:

  • Educating themselves about HIV/AIDS: Beauty professionals and estheticians should be educated about HIV/AIDS so that they can understand the condition and how to prevent the spread of the virus.
  • Being respectful of clients with HIV/AIDS: Beauty professionals and estheticians should treat all clients with respect, regardless of their HIV status.
  • Taking precautions to prevent the spread of HIV: Beauty professionals and estheticians should take precautions to prevent the spread of HIV, such as using gloves and other personal protective equipment (PPE) when providing services to clients with HIV.
  • Referring clients to a healthcare provider: If a beauty professional or esthetician suspects that a client may have HIV, they should refer the client to a healthcare provider for testing and treatment.

The difference between HIV and AIDS:

HIV is the virus, and Aids is the name of the disease that is caused by the HIV virus.
